MMPI®-3 is here!

The MMPI®-3 (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory®-3) is a completely new test that directly identifies central dysfunctions: Behavioral, Emotional and Thinking, while at the same time, along with the established classic scales, captures for the first time a number of very important traits such as e.g.: Eating Concerns, Despair, Overconfidence.

Designed to meet current scientific and clinical needs, it is based on decades of research and maintains the validity and reliability that characterize the MMPI® series of psychometric instruments.

The Greek and Cypriot weighting, approved by the University of Minnesota, confirms the validity and high reliability of the MMPI®-3.

The MMPI®-3 is a valuable tool for mental health professionals, psychologists, counsellors, and specialists working in the areas of clinical assessment, therapeutic intervention and staff selection.

Used in:

  • Clinical assessment and diagnosis of psychopathology
  • Psychological expertise
  • Design and monitoring of therapeutic interventions
  • Selection and evaluation of staff in critical posts
  • Research use in psychology studies

MMPI®-3 introduces significant improvements and adaptations to meet modern needs:

  • New and updated validity and attribute scales based on recent research data
  • The results are produced as charts or as a ready-made analytical report.
  • Updated weighting in a modern Greek and Cypriot sample.
  • Refreshed, simplified and culturally sensitive question language.
  • Easy to administer questionnaire with 335 questions.
  • 335 "Truth / Lie" questions, revised and modernized
  • Completion time: 25-35 minutes online or 35-50 minutes on paper
  • 10 validity scales that assess the accuracy of responses
  • 42 specialised personality and behavioural assessment scales covering a wide range of psychological conditions
  • Clinical scales (Higher-Order and RC), which assess psychopathological features such as anxiety, depression, emotional dysfunction and cognitive disorganization.
  • Specific Problem Scales, which look at more specific areas, such as sleep problems, hostility, family problems and addictions.
  • Personality Psychopathology Five Scales (Personality Psychopathology Five Scales-PSY-5). They assess five key dimensions of pathological personality: negative emotionality, impulsivity, aggression, introversion and psychoticism, providing experts with a more structural understanding of long-term psychological traits.

The MMPI®-3 can be completed:

  • Electronically via a specialised online platform, where grading and interpretation are done automatically.
  • In hard copy, with automatic scoring and interpretation through specialised software.

The MMPI®-3 software and web platform enable you to receive the examinee's charts and interpretive result report directly and automatically.

Human Resources (HR) Management and Development

Selection of suitable candidates: The MMPI®-3 helps companies identify not only candidates with the necessary skills, but also those with the right mental resilience and emotional balance, ensuring a more dynamic and reliable workforce.

Employee Development Strategy: By assessing the psychological characteristics of employees, the MMPI®-3 enables the creation of targeted development programs, increasing employee satisfaction and engagement, while reducing the need for frequent recruitment and replacement.

Aviation

The MMPI®-3 assesses the mental resilience of pilots and aircrew members, ensuring that they are ready to cope with demanding and dangerous situations. By assessing characteristics such as stress and emotional reactions, safety and effectiveness in the air are enhanced.

Making the right decisions and crisis management: Analysing the psychological characteristics of staff allows for a better assessment of their mental profile, ensuring that critical in-flight decisions are made by individuals with high emotional stability and mental clarity.

Shipping

The MMPI®-3 offers a modern and reliable assessment of the mental fitness of crew members, reducing the risk of human error and enhancing overall safety. Characteristics such as aggressive behaviour, anxiety, anti-social behaviour and emotional resilience are critical to the proper functioning of a crew - characteristics that are accurately assessed through the MMPI®-3.

Strengthening Team Dynamics: Understanding the psychological profile of crew members, as captured in the MMPI®-3, enhances communication and teamwork, elements fundamental to the success and cohesion of crews and, by extension, the companies that hire them.

Security Bodies & Armed Forces

The MMPI®-3 assesses the mental stability of security personnel (armed and unarmed), ensuring that critical responsibilities, such as the security of persons and premises, are assigned to individuals with the appropriate psychological profile and resilience. Proper assessment of the mental state of staff enhances the effectiveness of the service and reduces the risk of errors related to psychological stress.

Protection of Personnel and Public Safety: Using the MMPI®-3, agencies can identify signs of stress, emotional difficulties or other psychological parameters that may affect performance. This helps promote employee well-being and maintain high standards of safety for the public.

Clinical Use and Treatment

Accurate Diagnoses and Treatment Plans: The MMPI®-3 provides psychologists and psychiatrists with a powerful tool for diagnosing mental disorders, facilitating the creation of accurate and individualized treatment plans for their patients.

Personalised Treatment: Detailed psychological profiling through the MMPI®-3 allows therapists to understand the specific needs of their patients, enhancing the therapeutic process and leading to more targeted and effective sessions. In addition, the new platform reduces the time and cost of the process, making it more efficient.

THE USE OF MRI-3 IN PSYCHIATRIC CLINICAL PRACTICE

  • Diagnostically it covers a wide range of psychopathological conditions (psychotic disorders, emotional, anxiety, somatopoietic disorders, as well as providing us with important data on personality disorders).
  • It offers a structured psychopathology profile that can complement or confirm the clinical assessment of the psychiatrist.
  • It can help substantially in many cases of differential diagnoses or difficult diagnoses (psychosis vs. personality disorders with psychosis-like elements, depression vs. somatoform/anxiety disorders, psychotic vs. emotional disorders, etc.).
  • It also gives us important information about feigning and manipulative behaviours and personality styles through the Validity Scales.
  • It can provide essential information about the patient's personality in situations such as:
  • Ways to manage stress and conflict
  • Defence mechanisms and emotional maturity
  • Impulse control and aggression levels
  • Interpersonal patterns and social adaptability
  • Indicative uses:
  • In expert reports on capacity to contract, criminal liability, parental custody, adoption
  • In an assessment of risk or tendencies for antisocial behaviour
  • For detection of malingering, overexpression or limited expression of the underlying symptomatology and clinical picture in general.
  • If there is a reallocation, it can be evaluated:
  • The change in symptoms after medication or psychotherapeutic intervention.
  • The stabilisation or deregulation of personality in chronic cases.
  • The MMRI-3 measures dimensions of psychopathology - i.e., degrees of symptom intensity, emotional states and personality traits.
  • An example of a global "dimensional assessment", using the MMPI-3, in a patient after an ICD-10 diagnosis of F1 Moderate Depressive Episode is given below.
  • Depression is not approached categorically, i.e. with the diagnostic form "F1 Moderately severe depressive episode", but it is shown to what extent symptoms related to depression are manifested (e.g. discomfort, loss of energy, pessimism, etc.).
  • First, general emotional dysfunction is determined - that is, how extensively and persistently the person experiences negative emotions such as sadness, anxiety, low self-esteem and internal tension (first-order dimensional approach): "Emotional Dysfunction/Internalization" scale. Here there may even be a differential diagnosis as to whether psychotic elements are present (assessment of the "Thinking Dysfunction" Scale
  • The following are the main components of depressive disorder (second-order dimensional approach): "Discouragement", "Low Positive Emotion", "Dysfunctional Negative Emotions" scales
  • Several more specific symptoms or signs of the disorder are then identified (third-order dimensional approach):
  • Internalised problems: "Suicidal ideation", "Despair", "Self-doubt", "Anxiety", etc.
  • Interpersonal problems: Scales of "Social Avoidance", "Shyness"
  • Personality traits: "Negative Emotion/Neuroticism", "Introversion/Low Positive Emotion" scales
  • All of the above Scales are assessed according to the levels of their elevations, i.e. whether and to what extent they are found in a particular patient.
  • All of the above are taken into account with the "Validity Scales" as well as with the "Critical Content Responses", the latter even functioning as "direct intervention" measurements.
  • With all of the above measures (and perhaps some other Scales, which are not directly related to depressive disorders), we are able to make a dimensional assessment of the magnitude and components of the disorder as they appear in the specific patient.
